Set against the mighty Athabasca River amongst the tall, dark
pine trees and rolling greens is the Whitecourt Golf and Country
Club. "We have among the best greens in Alberta." says
professional golfer and director of the club Jerry Linquist proudly.
Linquist, who grew up in Whitecourt and was on the Canadian tour
in 1997 and 1998 says the town's course is well maintained and
seems to be getting better every year.
The course is an 18 hole, par 72 golf course equipped with a licensed
lounge and a fully stocked pro shop. It was designed and built
in 1991 by Les Furber, an internationally acclaimed course designer
who has put together 100 courses across the world including Cuba,
the U.S, Bermuda, and Switzerland. The lounge hosts several banquets
throughout the year and has a full menu. The pro shop has all
the top brands in the sport's equipment and apparel.
